Alpine Does LaMancha Does Nubian Does Sable Does Bucks Kidding Schedule For Sale Reference Sires Our Horses Links

Welcome to Deerpath Goats owned by Debbie and Herman Schwegler. We are located in Belgium, Wisconsin which is about 40 miles North of Milwaukee and three miles West of Lake Michigan. We currently raise registered Alpine, LaMancha, Nubian, Sable and Recorded Grade Dairy Goats.

In addition to the goats, we have a variety of sizes of horses, including Purebred Arabians, Ponies and Miniature Horses. We generally have a few Miniature Horse foals born each year and typically offer most of the foals for sale. Debbie has owned horses since 1974 and used to be active with showing horses.

We acquired our first goats as pets in 1994 which included an Alpine-type doe, a Saanen-type doe, and a couple of pygmy's. We still have relatives of these original goats in our herd. Our son, Eric, started showing the goats in 4-H in 1996. In his first year of showing Eric showed a grade Alpine doe that was born on our farm and a pygmy doe that we purchased as a baby. Eric really enjoyed having the goats and showing them, which led to the purchase of his first registered goat back in 1997 - an Alpine doe kid named Beebe.

This was the start of our registered dairy goat herd and our growing interest in attending goat shows. One of the highlights of showing each year is exhibiting at the Wisconsin State Fair. Eric has shown goats at the State Fair every year since 2001 entering both their youth show (until he was too old to be in 4-H) and their open show.

In 2003 Eric won the highly competitive Intermediate Showmanship class at the Wisconsin State Fair out of a class of 24 exhibitors! Eric showed at Nationals in 2006 in Showmanship with his LaMancha doe, Vallery, in the Fitting Competition, and the Management and Judging contest (where he placed in the top ten), and at Nationals in 2007 in Showmanship (placing 11th with a doe he "borrowed" for the class), in the Fitting Competition (part of the 5th place group - Team W), and the Management and Judging contest (where he again placed in the top ten).

Watching Eric in the show ring created an interest in showing for Debbie, who now gets a lot of enjoyment out of showing goats herself (although she is not yet up to the skill level that Eric has). Debbie and Eric attend the shows while Herman stays home and does all of the chores. We are fortunate that Herman does all of this so Eric and Debbie can attend the shows.

This website contains goats owned by Debbie and Herman, Our son, Eric and his wife Amber, have his own website which features their goats and horses. See Eric and Amber's website at www.deerpathdairygoats.com
